Sheboygan-based property and casualty insurer Acuity has plans to hire more than 120 employees next year after experiencing strong growth in its business, the company announced. “Acuity’s staff expansion is an investment in our future,” Ben Salzmann, Acuity president and chief executive officer said in a statement. “Our continued growth means that not only are we able to provide rewarding jobs to new hires, but also to offer tremendous advancement potential for employees who seek it.” The company hiring efforts will focus on recent graduates starting their first job, experienced insurance professionals seeking new challenges and people from other industries looking to make a career change, Acuity general counsel and human resources vice president Joan Ravanelli Miller said in a statement. The insurer will hire staff across all areas of its operations, including processors, underwriters, programmers, technical support staff, analysts, claims professionals, loss control representatives, field staff and maintenance staff. As of June 2019, Acuity had 1,300 employees, about 1,000 of whom were based at the Sheboygan headquarters. The company has increased its staff by nearly 50 percent over the past seven years, hired more than 900 employees in the past five years and nearly 200 in 2019 alone. Acuity has grown throughout its operating territory and has doubled its top-line revenue in the past eight years, according to a press release. Acuity is now ranked the 60th largest property/casualty writer in the nation, according to a 2018 Best’s Review poll. In 2017 the company completed a $170 million expansion of its Sheboygan headquarters, increasing total building space to over 1.2 million square feet in anticipation of continued staff growth. In addition, a 250,000-square-foot, 700-plus stall parking structure and a 41,000-square-foot recreation center featuring three multi-purpose courts and an indoor running track are under construction at the company’s headquarters, with completion scheduled for early 2021. Acuity insures over 100,000 businesses, 300,000 commercial vehicles and nearly a half million homes and private passenger autos across 28 states. The company had revenue of $1.66 billion in 2019, up from $1.54 billion in 2018. Acuity also attracted a total of $277.5 million in new business last year.
