Acuity to build major HQ expansion

Sheboygan-based property and casualty insurer Acuity announced that it will begin construction of a $130 million, 240,000-square-foot addition to its corporate headquarters in Sheboygan by December.

The project will increase the size of Acuity’s campus at 2800 S. Taylor Dr. by more than 50 percent.

“Expanding our headquarters reflects our faith in Acuity’s future,” said Ben Salzmann, president and CEO. “We need to plan and build now to be prepared to handle the growth in business that we will achieve in the years ahead.”

Acuity says it has added $350 million in revenue in the last 36 months and has reached $3 billion in assets. The company has added 100 new employees in each of the past two years and says it plans for continued increases in staffing.

When the expansion of the Acuity headquarters is completed, the building will be able to accommodate 4,000 employees, over four times what the current structure can hold.

The expanded Acuity campus will feature new training facilities, upgraded infrastructure and security, and a 2,000-person theater-in-the-round for companywide meetings. Construction will also include new parking structures, allowing current parking lots to be returned to green space. The project is expected to last three years.

In addition, Acuity’s expanded headquarters will have a permanently installed, 65-foot Ferris wheel.

“Acuity has been named the Best Medium Workplace in America five times because of the great work environment we have cultivated,” said Sheri Murphy, vice president of services and administration. “Having a Ferris wheel will be a constant reminder that Acuity is not your typical insurance company.”
