It appears Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele will be unopposed in his bid for a full term. He won a special election last April to serve the remainder of Gov. Scott Walker’s term.
Franklin handyman Steve Hogan was short of the 2,000 signatures he needed to qualify for the ballot against Abele, according to the Milwaukee County Election Commission. Hogan turned in about 1,500 signatures on the day of the deadline to file, but said he ran out of time to gather the rest of the signatures.
Abele turned in about 2,900 signatures, according to the commission.
Hogan said he decided last week to run for the office after hearing that Abele may be unopposed for re-election.
Five county supervisor incumbents will face no opposition in the spring election. The 3rd District will also see only one candidate. The current supervisor, Joseph Rice chose not to run and Gerry Broderick was the only person to file.
There will be a primary in the race to be the county’s first elected comptroller. The new position was created by legislation signed by Gov. Scott Walker in November. Scott Manske, Kristie Bunting, and Todd Sobotka have all filed for the position.
Primaries will also take place in four districts where incumbents chose not to run. Notably, seven candidates have filed to replace retiring County Board Chairman Lee Holloway in the 5th District.
No incumbents will face primaries.
