88Nine RadioMilwaukee launches “Make Milwaukee” campaign

88Nine RadioMilwaukee has also launched an effort to “Make Milwaukee,” the campaign is focused on connecting the city’s artists, performers and other cultural assets, with the community.
For the next eight weeks, RadioMilwaukee will take listeners on fast-paced audio tours of the city’s arts community. Each week’s four to six audio pieces will be led by a different expert “tour guide” – including performers, arts advocates and visual artists.
“Some of the country’s most creative artists and performers have turned Milwaukee into a thriving arts community,” said Mary Louise Mussoline, executive director of Radio Milwaukee. “‘Make Milwaukee,'” our annual focus on the arts, will bring these local artists alive on air and draw listeners to the many exciting shows, exhibits and museums that reflect the vibrant and creative nature of our community.”
A number of artists and arts advocates were asked to serve as tour guides for the pieces because of their depth of involvement and knowledge, said 88Nine RadioMilwaukee Producer Adam Carr.
“We wanted the creative community to represent itself,” Carr said. “We’ve asked residents invested in the arts in Milwaukee to show our listeners what gets them personally excited.”
In addition to the tour guide audio pieces, up to two minutes in length, the series will include brief taped interviews with a variety people working in the arts. All pieces will be posted online after airing atwww.radiomilwaukee.org in the “Unified Milwaukee” section.
Arts to be covered during the series include music, theater, visual arts, culture events and storytelling.
“In our first week alone, we’ll see subjects as diverse as a fencing group with an artistic flair to an electronic music act from Burkina Faso to an upstart theater company bringing adult theater to Milwaukee,” Carr said.
“Make Milwaukee” is part of RadioMilwaukee’s year-round Community Initiatives Campaign. The campaign consists of an annual calendar of programming that highlights what’s best about Milwaukee and its community organizations.
